Te Ara O Hei Walking Tour


Explore Te Ara O Hei (The Path of Hei, the local iwi).

Michelle will drop Tony, your guide, with you at Te Whanganui-A-Hei lookout to begin your journey.  This magnificent walk takes you through to Cathedral Cove enabling you to tick that off your bucket list.  The approx. 14 km walk back from Cathedral Cove to Whitianga passes through pine forest and farmland, coastline and beach. Cathedral Cove Macadamia Orchard is also on the way.You may like to enjoy an organic ice cream and a selection of delicious products.

The Stella Everard lookout at Purangi has views from the estuary to Shakespeare Cliff. A little trip across the estuary by good old-fashioned rowboat will have you at Cooks Beach.  From there you can walk Cooks beach where Tony’s history of the region and his storytelling will keep you entertained.

Bring a packed lunch to enjoy in the open, breathing in the fresh sea air and taking in the views.  If you have the time and energy, you can walk to the lookout at Shakespeare Cliff which affords amazing views of the ocean and the various islands dotted around.

Once you reach Ferry Landing, the last leg of your journey will be a short ferry ride to Whitianga Wharf where Michelle will collect you and return you to your base or the local Irish pub for a cold and well deserved beer.
